Promoting research in Agricultural Sciences, GLA University signed MoU with ICBA Dubai

Summer monsoon graces the Indian subcontinent annually between the months of June and September. It is during this rainy season that India receives the majority (about 75%) of its yearly rains. But still there is water scarcity in India. Water is one of the major factors which affect agriculture along with fertility of soil, quality of seeds and various environmental factors. There is a huge scope of research in agricultural sector. Hence to provide extra resources to university students of agricultural sciences for research, GLA University, Mathura has signed an MoU with International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), a Dubai based organization which excels in agricultural research.

Dr. Tarifa Al Zabi
This MoU came to in effect after signed by Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Registrar, GLA University and Dr. Tarifa Al Zabi, Deputy Director General of ICBA, Dubai. The Purpose of this MoU is to provide students of agricultural sciences the new resecures and technology in agricultural science along with knowledge of Climate-Smart crops and testing of soil to identify the properties of soil. This MoU will benefit the students and professors of both the institutes. Under this MoU, various seminars and workshops on the agriculture, Teacher and students exchange programs will be organized and the students of GLA University will have the opportunity to undergo internship at ICBA, Dubai.

GLA University, started the course on B.Sc. in Agricultural Sciences just few years ago. Just after launch of this course, it got a positive response from 10+2 passed students. Even this year, GLA University received good numbers of admission in this course. There are number of opportunities of jobs and start-ups in agricultural sector (both in government and private sector) for the students after completion of this course.

Prof. Dilip Kumar Sharma, Dean (International Relations and Academic Collaboration) said that under this MoU, GLA University and ICBA led Youth Engagement Society will jointly work on the food security and to minimize the problems in production of the crops.

Prof. Surendra Singh Siwach, Dean (B.Sc. Agriculture) said that ICBA, Dubai provides the solutions to problems by doing extensive research in the areas affected by high salinity, water scarcity and drought affected area, by testing of soil and climatic conditions for climate-smart crops. He also added that a large area of land in GLA University is available for students of agricultural science for conducting the experiments on many subjects along with the testing of soil by growing crops in that area.

Prof. Kamal Sharma, Dean (R&D), said that this MoU will provide an extra aid to the faculties and students to conduct good quality research and benefit the agricultural sector at local and global level.
